The Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSIA) of 2008
The 2008 The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) requires that following regarding products manufactured for children: :
a) They must comply with rules that apply to children’s product safety rules;
b) The products are tests in an approved CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) laboratory for compliance.
c) The manufacturer or importer of the product is issues with a Children’s Product Certificate which provides evidence that the product is compliant.
d) That the product and its packaging has permanent track and trace information.
The CPSIA also requires domestic manufacturers or importers of non-children’s products (cpsc.gov/generaluse) for which a consumer product safety rule, or any similar rule, ban, standard, or regulation under any law enforced by the CPSC is in effect, to issue a “General Certificate of Conformity” (cpsc.gov/gcc). The GCC must be based on a test of each product or a reasonable testing program.
